As much as I love purple, that was a hideous piece of furniture to start with. Cheer up, they could've lined the drawers with the flowers as well! Excellent job transforming it.

Lovely restoration of the wood, and I really like the new upholstery. Is there a reason you didn't put the new material on the bottom of the box? It looks like it was there on the original. I'm sure your customer was thrilled with the finished piece!

I bought a near identical set of drawers for my student room in 1982. I think I paid £5 and apart from a dust and vacuum I remember hosing it down with water out in the garden on a hot day. The varnish was in good condition. I think your customer is going to be delighted with your work.

Great work. It looks wonderful. I am also glad that you did not paint or guild the draw handles. If you had done so it would have looked kitsch and would not have suited the peice. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Affected just that one piece. I fond a mansion in Austin with a 20x30 Ball Room, with a parquet floor. There were outside doors with poor drainage. The termites had eaten only 2 inches across the door, due to rain damage, AND, they tunneled 6 feet back, reached 1 (one) parquet piece made with 3/4x1 1/2 x 8 inches and ate ONLY that one. There were over 1000 parquet pieces and they ate 1, only. The contractor was mystified and so I told him what I tell you. They only ate the weak half at the door due to it deteriorating into digestion range. They made a way to the one piece out of 1000+ pieces due to it's being the only one they found digestible. Their instinct just like yours and mine is to know what is 'ripe', and ignore the other 1000+ which are not 'ripe'. We just do not understand how to measure wood from the termite perspective. The same is true for your wood worms. That piece next to it, under it, and contacting it in the door wood is all out of range. THAT one piece is delicious. Generally, when you see ants, mosquitos, termites, and others we view as pests, they are attacking the weakest among the options.

I think of that factory and company. People from the 1890's to 1920's. Electric lights, yes. Radio in a handsome cabinet. Phones in the living room, on a little phone table. Coal furnaces. Trolley to work and home. Any bit of window or clear cabinet piece was always glass. Lit their cook stoves in the kitchen with gas. Had an Encyclopedia set in the Living Room. It was dated the year of manufacture right on the spline. Read their Bible and Dictionary in book form. Open windows and fans to cool the house. US cars were massive, and all carbonated gas engines. Propeller driven aircraft for travel. They made this magnificent piece with real wood, veneer, and real brass. I have taken out many slot driven screws from pieces like this. Every thing they had was Made in USA. Today, we see the treasure in this fine piece they made. When will beauty like this be undesirable? Never. Everyone who contributed to this is gone. You really honor them and their work of art.
